AIDA - Encore! Performing Arts

“Encore! Cast Performing Arts, an all-volunteer group made up of Disney Employees, presents “Aida in concert” This week at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.  It’s a concert version - - the orchestra and a chorus are on the stage - - but the show features elaborate costumes, lighting effects and scenic design.  When considered as a “concert,” Encore’s production rises far above - - an eye-catching pyramid frames the stage in Cliff Price’s scenic design.  Morgan Edwards’ lighting creates the perfect blend of theatricality and the pop flavor of John’s score. (The pyramid effects are especially impressive.)”

RAGTIME - Encore! Performing Arts

“The outstanding quality of Cliff Price's scenic design, Morgan Edwards' lighting, Kristine Speroni's costumes and Katherine Rivera's choreography make the experience much more than a concert.”

HAIRSPRAY - Encore! Performing Arts

"Cliff Price's bubbly and colorful set design brought us a fresh new take while still paying homage to the trends of the sixties time period.  The use of hairspray cans is especially charming, including two giant cans that framed either side of the proscenium, and an entire backdrop of hairspray cans tied to one another, forming a kind of groovy texture against the cyclorama.  Different playing levels onstage provided the separation of space in order for scenes to exist simultaneously in separate spaces.  This is especially impressive in "Without Love," and "Mama I'm a Big Girl Now."

BUYER AND CELLAR - Mad Cow Theater

"The technical work also adds zip: Gabriella Petro’s sound, Amy Hadley’s lighting and Cliff Price’s scenic design — a sort of generic elegance with a dab of detached surrealism. All in all, for a night of laughs, Babs’ basement turns out to be a mighty good bet. "

GLORIA - Mad Cow Theater

"Scenic Designer Cliff Price has deftly created the bland world in which young professionals exist: offices of neutral gray paint, frosted glass and fluorescent lights. It’s a reminder of the ordinary that we take for granted - until it’s gone."

"Scenic Designer Cliff Price creates an intimate, light, and adaptable setting in Mad Cow’s small black box theater. The setting is complete with cubicles, frosted glass office doors and a corridor leading to a hall."

SISTER ACT - Osceola Arts

“Cliff Price created the beautiful church setting for Osceola Arts' "Sister Act." Cliff Price’s set also makes the church a glorious place of refuge, while his secondary sets contrast with a pleasing attention to detail: The “Wanted” posters in the police station, the tacky neon signs in the bars.”

Matilda 20.jpg

MATILDA - Titusville Playhouse

“Cliff Price’s scenic design is sensational and with Luke Atkison’s lighting…oh my.”

Pam Harbaugh - Brevard Culture

“As it becomes clear that Matilda’s life is founded on the unstable terrain of a Jenga tower; the story poses the questions “Who fits in society’s boxes?” and “Why might it be better to go one’s own way?” These questions are framed (by designer Cliff Price) in the set’s hundreds of stacked and scattered boxes which store pivotal props such as picture books and toiletries. The frames are an intentional departure from the tiles used in the NYC production, since that motif is restricted exclusively for designer Rob Howell on Broadway. Randomly constructed the way a preschooler might stack a surplus of present boxes on Christmas afternoon, the boxes in TPI’s set light up with lettering for dramatic effect on specific lyrics. The square motif is also reflected in the flooring which mimic carpet squares of varied colors. Lighting and projection designer, also Atkison, moves plot’s setting from home to school to shack primarily with swaths of technicolor and one smaller wall of the boxes on coasters.”

FADE - Mad Cow Theater

“Cliff Price’s office set works nicely in the small Zehngbot-Stonerock theater, and Ethan Vail’s lighting is often as unforgiving as the thrust of the story.”

ADDAMS FAMILY - Osceola Arts

"Everything plays out on a superb set designed by Cliff Price - his multi-tiered set works perfectly for the production, is filled with eye-popping detail, and helps makes everything flow well on stage. It all looks and feels, well, Addams-y."

Mostly Musical Theatre - Central Florida Edition - a2view.com

"Upon entering the Osceola Arts Theater for THE ADDAMS FAMILY production, we knew we were in for a spooky treat, and that’s what we were hoping for. Each side of the stage was set with eerie graveyards and there was a faint fog that helped guide us into the Halloween spirit. We loved the visually stunning sets, designed by Cliff Price and outstanding costumes, created by Matthew Carl. Both truly heightened the overall look and feel of the production."

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND - Theater West End

“In a world of chaos and strife, Theater West End has created a lovely island of hope with a joyous ringing message of love. The Sanford theater is presenting the musical “Once On This Island” - and has the beachfront to prove it. Cliff Price’s set is an eye-catcher, with its running water and a sandy beach that provides a home to an overturned fishing boat and some island shacks that have seen better days. The impressive set has some tricks up its sandy sleeves, too, involving dry ice and rain - both used to good effect. If the beachy-keen set provides the show’s skeleton, the cast is its heart. In telling their story, the actors radiate an infectious joy.”

Matt Palm – Orlando Sentinel

“Theater West End is already a little like an island - a tiny paradise of independent, startup theatre on the distant outskirts of Central Florida - but for their second season kickoff, they’ve built an actual beach. “Once On This Island” comes to life with mounds of sand, full-fledged shacks, an overturned boat that doubles as a platform, a wood-planked bridge, and a running stream of water that curls around the stage in a rock-lined canal. Let me repeat: they built a river that flows through the theater. It’s the most impressive set I’ve seen here, and that’s saying something. At one point, rain falls down from the ceiling all around the stage, as if to replenish the river as it evaporates under Derek Critzner and Jonathan Scaringella’s lively light desing.”

“Looking at Cliff Price’s set for Theater West End’s “Once on This Island,” you might have been tempted to pull out the sunscreen. Price’s set was a real eye-catcher, with its running water and a sandy beach that provided a home to an overturned fishing boat and island shacks that had seen better days. It also accommodated rainfall to good effect.”

“Price’s second nod in this category is for Osceola Arts’ production of “Sister Act.” His elegant primary set made the church a glorious place of refuge, while his deliberately down-market secondary sets contrasted with a pleasing attention to detail: “Wanted” posters in a police station and tacky neon signs in the bars.”

CABARET - Encore! Performing Arts

“Every production I've seen from Encore always has innovative and abstract set design, whether it be the expansive human pyramid of Aida or the skewed perspective of a stage in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Often, these Encore sets are conceived and designed by Cliff Price, who continues that role here. I must say, it's probably his most versatile set, especially given the work space he's given at Osceola Arts. Part and parcel of any production for CABARET involves making the audience feel more involved, whether it be standard mirror on the stage of the original Broadway production or Encore's rendition: the black box theater literally becomes the Kit Kat Klub. Drinks at the ready, spotlights on the showgirls, front-row seats for prime viewing.”

THE BODYGUARD - The Garden Theatre

“The Garden Theatre has obviously put a lot of effort into its slick production of “The Bodyguard,” a self-described “romantic thriller” based on the 1992 movie starring Houston and Costner. Cliff Price’s sliding set pieces, George Jackson’s colorful lighting, Kat Henwood’s attractive and sexy costume; all seem ready for an MTV music-video shoot.”

Matt Palm - Orlando Sentinel

“Happily, Cliff Price's nostalgic set design and Kat Henwood's screen-inspired costuming make it easy to imagine that everything is unfolding when it should. Frankly, we could all use a night in the 90s. Sara Catherine Barnes (Show Director) and Cliff Price, along with Lighting Designer George Jackson, Sound Designer Anthony Narciso, and Music Director Elaine Cotignola are to be congratulated for an overall aesthetic of danger and intrigue.”

NEWSIES - The Henegar

“NEWSIES, the opening production of The Henegar Center's 31st season brings the classic Disney musical to vivid life in Melbourne with an exciting and highly polished production that shares the story of how a few young men "seized the day" and made a real impact.  Cliff Price has designed a beautiful set that captures the mood and feeling of the era via realistic buildings and set pieces while ensuring seamless and creative transitions throughout the show.”

FUN HOME - Theater West End

“Cliff Price's "Fun Home" set for Theater West End in Sanford puts you in the mind of protagonist Alison Bechdel, a cartoonist.“Fun Home” is onstage at Theater West End in Sanford, and this is the first time I’ve noticed that particular motif so strongly at the forefront of the musical’s various themes. The story, based on graphic novelist Alison Bechdel’s life, depicts her journey as she comes to terms with her sexuality and struggles to understand her father.  And special mention must be made of Cliff Price’s graphic scenic design, the slickest set I’ve seen at Theater West End. Paired with Samuel Finken’s lighting, its imagery puts you right in Alison’s head, in the middle of her black-and-white world that is far grayer than she would like. In this handsome production, that’s a compelling place to be.”

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - The Orlando Repertory Theatre

Critic’s Pick: ‘Sleepy Hollow’ thrills with brilliant imagination

The Orlando Repertory Theatre has found a delightfully creative way to tell one of the best.  In a brilliantly staged production, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” demonstrates how every aspect of theater can work together to tell a story convincingly and with flair. Fittingly, scenic designer Cliff Price has designed a rustic classroom — the Colonial-era desks in a row, books piled neatly. But a grinning jack-o'-lantern leers from near the teacher’s perch. Flickering candles and bobbing lanterns hung from above suggest the time period, but also set the mood. The most beautiful element: A backdrop series of overlapping frames that suggest the windows to freedom known to every daydreaming student. The almost Impressionist trees viewed through them evoke the story’s rural setting — and then projected footage by Imag(o) in a (na)tion adds to the atmosphere. Cliff Price's gorgeously evocative set gives actor Stephen Pugh a fine setting in which to work in Orlando Repertory Theatre's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

“His brilliant imagination often got the best of him,” the narrator says about poor Ichabod. As it happens, “Brilliant imagination” is the perfect tagline for this delightful production.

Side Show - The Henegar

“As for the creative team, scenic designer Cliff Price has once again designed a set that captures the essence of the show - with an immersive circus tent and platform levels (and rotating elements) that convey the spectacle of the side show perfectly.”
